Atmospheric Parallelism
A sunset red bow competes with clouds in symmetry to dominate an incredibly serene moment this past weekend.
Red Bows (sunset and sunrise rainbows) are a result of the sunset sun rays (or sunrise) traveling long paths through the lower atmosphere where they are scattered by air molecules and dust. Short wavelength blues and greens are scattered most strongly leaving the remaining transmitted light proportionately richer in reds and yellows (source ( http://www.atoptics.co.uk/rainbows/redbow.htm ) ).
Image Notes: This image is yet another take from our fantastic trip to the eastern plains of Colorado this past Saturday for the "Super moon." This was taken just before the lightning really got going. For a while we thought we might have a chance at the moon rising through the rainbow but it faded practically within a minute of the moonrise and my moon shot is nowhere near the landscapes the evening gave me.
