An Evening Sojourn at the Gates of Lodore
The first major canyon encountered by the Powell Expedition, the Green River's Lodore Canyon opens impressively with the Gates of Lodore, two towering 800-ft tall buttresses cut from Precambrian bedrock looking straight out of Lord of the Rings scene.
Powell's expedition is responsible for many fun places names in the Dinosaur National Monument area including Gates of Ladore, Disaster Falls, Triplet Falls and Hell's Half Mile.
Shot Notes: A nearly full moon really helped to pop the foreground detail, whereas the low light pollution here helped keep the sky-viewing excellent.
By the way, thank you all so much for your support. I've just recently passed 4 million views on my photostream, thanks for all the visits. You all humble me!
