Nevada Desert Desiccation

Surface water in these parts is in short supply and when it does show up it typically dries up leaving behind a fascinating mosaic pattern of interlocking polygons of mud cracks such as seen here. Note how the polygons tend to form in sets of three mud cracks at 120º to each other. Geology is cool!
