Shangri-La in the Olympic Rainforest
This small fern and moss encrusted waterfall near Quinalt Lake aptly expresses just how lush it can get at one of the rainiest places on earth. This was actually taken during the dry season if you can imagine that.
In the rainforest where biomass per acre is at earth's highest, small details layer upon small details creating innumerable microclimates and habitats. The conifer needles strewn on the boulders like fairy-dust (view large to see) are some of my favorite of such details displayed in this waterfall scene.
