Exploring the Night: Astrophotography and Nocturnal Visions
♪♫ Meteor, on my Shoulders - Makes me Happy ♪♫
So I set up to try and do a Sunday Selfy this weekend up in Wyoming (got back too late to officially play in the group, doh). And I got miracled by a meteor! No joke, a flippin' meteor showed just above my shoulder in a nighttime self-portrait, heck yeah that makes me happy! ;-)))
Image notes: while I did catch the meteor with me in it, I still had to take a number of photos for this self-portrait and then blend them manually via luminosity masks, etc. in Photoshop. There's the meteor shot, the one with the foreground light painting (used a nice floody and warm $5.99 halogen spotlight from Home Depot), the enfused series of bracketed exposures for correctly exposing the tent (wrapped in EL wire and a soft light inside), and of course I got the bright idea later to point the spotlight at my face for grins so I had to blend that in too. But I can show you a RAW image file of me and the meteor above my shoulder and it happened on my very first selfie-take as it were, and I find that very cool!
